Phi Mu’s abroad: London

Our sister Thalia is currently interning abroad in London, and here’s what she has to say!

11715835_10153986865264606_718159581_nStudying abroad was always on my radar, but I never thought it was possible being a science major. This summer I am interning in London. The experience thus far has been phenomenal and I know it will be hard to leave at the end of the summer. My sisters have supported me the whole way through and I miss all of them more than I can explain. They were there when I was applying, when I got my internship placement and the nightmare that is getting an international visa. They supported me, cheered with me and were shoulders when I was having a rough time. It’s times like these, when I’m having an experience of a lifetime that I wish my sisters were here beside me.

My internship is in pharmaceutical research, drug development and business development. I have the great opportunity of working for a small pharmaceutical company based in London. I’ve become friends with other girls in the program and even have plans on meeting up with Phi Mu alumni who live here. This reinforces that Phi Mu is not just four years, but for a lifetime and the network of sisters across the globe is unending.

Any city I visit during my wanderlust I know I will have a support system simply because there are Phi Mu sisters everywhere. As much as I love living in London and traveling abroad I’m excited for August when I can share all of my experiences with my best friends, Phi Mu sisters. I wouldn’t be able to get where I am now and achieve this level if success without the support Phi Mu has given me. Cheers from London!

Summer Update

Our sisters are busy all over the world this summer doing internships, volunteering, studying abroad and so much more! Check out what some sisters are up to here:

  • Ashley is a social media intern in Chicago for a men’s custom clothing showroom.
  • Sammy is working at Anheuser-Busch as a co-op in their Research Pilot Brewery. She helps brew experimental beers!
  • Katie is an editorial intern at Chicago Parent magazine. She writes articles, creates social media posts, and edits and posts content to the website.
  • Paige is an HR/Training intern at MFA Oil for the summer. She makes training videos for Break Time and their corporate office.
  • Darby is interning at a company in St. Louis called Maritz and is working on special projects for Corporate and the Motivation company.

  • Alexandra got a scholarship from the College of Arts and Science to study abroad in Greece for a month!

We’re so proud of all our sisters!!

Bid Day 2014!

“It’s Hard to be Humble When You’re Queen of the Jungle” was our bid day theme this year.  Mizzou Phi Mu welcomed over 90 women into the PHInest sisterhood around this weekend. The new Phis were greeted on the quad by our senior class and led to Greek Town to meet and bond with their Bid Day buddies.  We had so much fun going to Laser Lanes where everyone enjoyed bowling, put-put and laser tag with their new sisters.

After a long 2 weeks of preparation and recruitment, we could not be happier with our pledge class! As the new school year starts, we look forward to getting to know all of our wonderful Phis and eventually initiating them into the Phi Mu sisterhood! Thanks to our sister Morgan Lieberman for capturing these amazing photos!

Wrapping up Summer

Phi Mu had a phenomenal summer. Before we all headed back to 503 Kentucky Boulevard, more sisters had some memorable experiences. Some were doing internships, some were studying abroad but there is no doubt that everyone had fun.

Now that our summers are coming to an end, we are so excited for Recruitment, and to welcome our 2014 Pledge Class!

Chi in Summertime

This summer, our sisters are taking over the world! Some are studying abroad in South America, Europe, Australia and Africa, while others have fantastic internships in the states.

Sisters Emily Love and Alex Nardi are spending the summer semester in Cape Coast, Ghana through the Mizzou Office of Service Learning, helping communities abroad.  Krystin Cardozo studied in Australia at the beginning of the summer and is now working at the St. Louis Zoo.  Mary Karcher is a communications intern at the Seattle Art Museum, and Abbie Wenthe is interning at Seventeen Magazine in New York City.  This is just a small sampling of what our sisters are up to this summer, and we could not be more proud of Chi Chapter and our well-rounded Phi Mu women!
